The file BWInstant.FKEY contains an function key (FKEY) resource that can be installed into your System file or use a utility program such as Suitcase.
BWInstant is a screen-depth changer, used to change from 8-bit color to black and white, and back, instantly. There are many other such utilities, each one more configurable and robust than this one. But, they all require that you take more than one action to accomplish the switch. BWInstant, on the other hand, is just that, instant.
Some Macintosh models, notably the popular Twosi, run much faster in black and white than in color. But of course those 256 colors of 8-bit mode are much more pleasing to the eye. So what mode do you use?
With BWInstant, press command-shift-8 and bang! the screen changes to black and white, perfect for quick scrolling through those long text documents or spread sheets. Then press command-shift-8 again and you are in 256 color mode great for graphics, and those icons: oo-la-la.
Well, there is a catch, though. BWInstant is completely non configurable. I use a Mac IIsi in either color (8-bit) mode or black and white. So if, like me, you use mainly those two modes, BWInstant makes the switch completely painless. If, however, you use 24, 16, 4 or any bit depth other than 1 and 8, BWInstant is not for you.
